“Up Close - Hollywood Road” is an exhibition that uses contemporary art as a means to intervene in the everyday environment and operation of antique shops, thereby creating a dialogue between history and modern times as well as art and traditional craft. The five participating artists of the show have different takes on collecting antiques and old objects and approach it from their own points of view. During the project, they have worked with four antique galleries specialised in different areas, and their new creations are inspired by the galleries’ history and collections. By restructuring, interpreting and liberating age-old objects from their original status as well as appropriating historical materials, their works are mirrors of the yearnings and imaginations we have nowadays. The exhibition takes place across multiple venues on Hollywood Road from 30 May to 18 July 2020.

A Performative Experience of Media, Art and Architecture
Awakening all the memory cells of vA!, 18 Scenes in a Cage recalls the notes and sounds of more than 100 years that are stored in and around Cassels Block. It then echoes contemporary existence by staging scenes that represent the 18 Hong Kong districts and reflect the rapid changes in Hong Kong people's lives. Leading through various locations inside and outside the historic building, which serves as a cage accommodating all walks of life, a path of acoustic encounters and visual excitement revives and mirrors extraordinary memories and connects them to the emotions of the city. GayBird will lead musicians and performers in different places on site to add a distinctive tone to his composition. Visitors will be immersed in a flow of experience combining all forms of art as they move through Cassel Block to the musical accompaniment, as the stories of different Hong Kong people from throughout the years come together in unison.
